Reasons To Throw Away Your Table Salt
Not all salt is created equal. I’m sure some of you have already heard the hype about switching from regular iodized table salt to pink salt or sea salt. There are some very good scientific reasons behind this hype and some health benefits you may want to consider before salting your next meal with white table salt.
Table Salt Downsides
First, let’s cover why you may want to dispose of your table salt rather than finishing off what’s left in your cupboard. Sodium chloride (NaCl) or table salt is a manufactured product. It is cooked to over 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, removing most of its other alkaline minerals.
Salt itself is not a dangerous food. It is actually a vital electrolyte in the body. However, during salt processing, the balance of sodium in comparison to other valuable minerals is lost. This mega dose of sodium is what may cause a rise in blood pressure or fluid retention.
On top of that, the table salts you buy at the grocery store often contain added synthetic chemicals. Some of these unnatural additives include anti-caking agents, fluoride and aluminum derivatives. Aluminum is known to contribute to Alzheimer’s and is a potential carcinogen. Sometimes the salt is also bleached to maintain its white color. Your table salt may not only be unhealthy, but downright toxic.
Sea Salt and Himalayan Salt Benefits
Instead of ditching salt altogether, why not give it an upgrade? Sea salt and Himalayan pink salt are dried and prepared in the sun naturally. They contain over 84 minerals and trace elements, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper, and iron, so it does more than just make your food taste better.
Its rich mineral content can help balance your body’s pH, which fosters immunity, encourages good digestion, and makes a huge difference in how you feel on a daily basis. Pink salt and sea salt give you a wide spectrum of elements necessary for electrolyte balance, adrenal function, thyroid health, respiratory health, and inhibiting muscle cramps.
These key elements are completely stripped away from table salt. So why not flavor your food with a yummy salt that garners tremendous health benefits and get the same great taste?
