Frequently Asked Questions
The tests are $95 for the antigen and antibody tests and $190 for the PCR test. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not pay pharmacies for COVID-19 tests given at the pharmacy. We can provide you with official results when requested that can be used to help submit to insurance companies. Please note that all appointments are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or rescheduled. If booking a test for travel, please verify with your travel destination before booking your test to ensure that the test will be accepted.
We offer three types of tests to test for current and past infections. The rapid antigen test looks for pieces of proteins that make up COVID-19 virus to see if you have an active infection. The antigen test is intended for patients with COVID-19 symptoms and in the early stages of infection, usually within the first 5 days of symptoms. The test can also be helpful if you have been exposed to someone with confirmed COVID-19. While the median incubation period for COVID-19 is 3-5 days, symptoms can appear up to 14 days after exposure. The rapid PCR test is a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) that uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and lateral flow technologies for the qualitative, visual detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 in nasal samples. The rapid antibody test looks for antibodies against the COVID-19 virus in the blood to see if you previously had COVID-19.
We currently have the Assure FaStep IgG/IgM Rapid Antibody Test. Our test is a finger prick blood test that looks to see if you have antibodies from a previous infection or from vaccination for the virus that causes COVID-19. It is a qualitative test for the presence or absence of IgG and IgM antibodies.
We currently have the Access Bio CareStart COVID-19 antigen test for Professional Use at Lamar Plaza Drug Store and the PHASE Scientific INDICAID COVID-19 antigen test at Dripping Springs Pharmacy. According to the Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA, CareStart has a positive percent agreement of 87.18% and a negative percent agreement of 100% compared to an FDA EUA RT-PCR molecular comparator assay. INDICAID has a positive percent agreement of 88.9% and a negative percent agreement of 96.8% compared to an FDA EUA molecular comparator assay.
We currently have the Accula SARS-CoV-2 PCR Test. According to the Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA, the Accula test has a positive percent agreement of 100% and a negative percent agreement of 100% in a prospective clinical study where it was compared to an EUA authorized SARS-CoV-2 Real-Time RT-PCR Assay.
We will administer the test to you curbside. When you get to the pharmacy, please park in the designated spots in the back of the pharmacy and text us to let us know that you have arrived. We will come out, collect your nasal swab or blood sample, and we will take care of the rest!
We will text you your results the same day, usually within an hour. If you’d like additional documentation, you can request official results by contacting the email provided in your text message.
A positive test means that you have an active COVID-19 infection.
A negative test result means that the virus that causes COVID-19 was not found in your sample. However, it is possible for this test to give a negative result that is incorrect (false negative) in some people with COVID-19. If you are still concerned that you have COVID-19, please contact your doctor. It could also be too early or too late in the infection to detect the virus.
A positive antibody test means that you were infected with COVID-19 in the past or received the COVID-19 vaccine and your immune system made antibodies to try to fight off the virus.
A negative antibody test means that no antibodies to the COVID-19 virus were found in your sample. There are a few reasons why negative antibody test results do not indicate with certainty that you do not have or have not had an infection with COVID-19. You could still have a current infection and the antibody test was collected too soon to give a positive result.
