Now, I’m So Good At Sleeping I Do It With My Eyes Closed (part 4, relaxation herbs)
… And finally we come to the relaxing herbs in Neuro Night Essentials. Let’s start with Valerian. Besides being used historically for anything from perfume to sewn into the wedding clothes of new husbands to ward off jealous elves, this plant, was discovered by the ancient Greeks and Romans as a treatment for insomnia. Valerian root contains specific acids that may translate into GABA. Remember my last blog, Neuro Night Essentials part 3 we talked about the neurotransmitter GABA, the hamster chill pill that promotes relaxation and lowers stress levels. For this reason, valerian root is known as a sedative. Valerian has similar effects of benzodiazepines, which are sedative drugs commonly prescribed for depression and sometimes prescribed for anxiety. There is 400mg of valerian in Neuro Night Essentials.
Then there is another herb that also boosts brain levels of, you guessed it -- GABA. All the way back in the 17th century, Spanish Jesuits in Peru first discovered Passionflower, and named it for its resemblance to the crucifixion of Christ. The Peruvians used the flower as a sedative, as well as to decrease stress and anxiety. Neuro Night Essentials include 250mg. of passionflower in every dose.
And last but not least, German Chamomile. Chamomile is one of the most popular herbs in the Western world. When it comes to sleep, chamomile is used to calm frayed nerves, relieve muscle spasms, and has a mild sedation effect, which helps millions of people to fall asleep easily and have a continued night of restful sleep. This is because some of the major causes of insomnia include racing thoughts, irritability, stress and anxiety; and chamomile can help eliminate or reduce those thoughts and feelings while also relaxing the muscles. Neuro Night Essentials have 250mg of German chamomile in each dose.
Well, if Neuro Night Essentials doesn’t put you to sleep, read this blog 4 part series over and over again and I promise you, we’ll get you to sleep one way or another. I’m nodding off already.
