What is CoQ-10 and What Are Its Benefits
What is CoQ-10?
Coenzyme Q-10 is the spark plug that ignites the body’s engine acting as a catalyst to energy production within every cell. The body then uses that cellular energy to fuel vital biological processes. CoQ-10 is present in every cell of your body and is essential for sustaining a wide range of healthy biological functions.
One of CoQ-10’s roles in the body is energy metabolism. The major part of cellular ATP (energy) production happens within the mitochondria, the engine of the cell. It is a critical substance for the electron transfer chain in mitochondrial respiration.
Due to the vital role it plays in the production of cellular energy, small changes in CoQ-10 levels within the mitochondria have been shown to have dramatic effects on the rate of cellular respiration. Research suggests that a deficiency of CoQ-10 may lead to declining energy levels and poor stamina.
Coenzyme Q-10 plays a key role as an antioxidant by neutralizing free radicals and preventing oxidative stress to the body’s cells and DNA. It can also help recycle the active forms of vitamin E and vitamin C, some of the body's most powerful antioxidants. The body's ability to assimilate CoQ-10 peaks at around the age of 21 and declines after that, lowering by as much as sixty-five percent by the time we are 80.
Coenzyme Q-10 Foods
CoQ-10 supplementation has a long history of effectively enhancing immune response, cardiac strength, nerve, and brain health. We should make our best attempts to obtain our daily dose of Coenzyme Q-10 from food sources such as dark green and cruciferous vegetables, alfalfa, barley grass, legumes, sesame seeds, pistachios, strawberries, and oranges, to name a few.
Unfortunately, the amount of CoQ-10 we typically get from our regular dietary intake may not be enough to compensate even for our normal age-related decline in CoQ-10 levels.
Premier Research Lab's CoQ-10 contains natural, fat-soluble ubiquinone. It is an excellent coenzyme Q10 supplementation for several reasons. This CoQ-10 is produced through a natural fermentation process that yields 100 mg/capsule of the bioavailable, preferred trans isomeric form of CoQ-10 (not the less desirable cis isomer form).

This process does not use polysorbate 80 (an emulsifier made from polyethoxylated sorbitan), undesirable flow agents, or other excipients. This natural form of CoQ-10 is the most desirable because it is identical to the CoQ-10 produced by the cells in the body. Coenzyme Q-10 is found in the highest concentrations in body tissues with the highest rate of metabolic activity and energy demands (such as in the heart, muscle, liver, kidney, and brain).
CoQ-10 is one of those foundational health-building nutrients many of us would benefit from as an addition to our regular supplemental programs.
