Due to the growing tensions surrounding the Zika virus, bug spray has been added to the Texas Medicaid and CHIP formularies. This means anyone who is pregnant, or a women age 10 - 45, can receive mosquito repellent for free in Texas! Though there is no record of mosquitoes in Texas transmitting the Zika virus, the state is taking every measure to help protect future mothers.

An announcement from the American Pharmacists Association, on August 15, 2016, says “Eligible patients can call their doctor to request a prescription—but they do not need to actually go to the doctor's office—and they can obtain up to two cans per month at the pharmacy through October 31”

KXAN News reported on this development directly quoting Martin’s Wellness Compounding Pharmacy. Kimberly Irby, a pharmacist at the Martin’s Wellness at Lamar Plaza location, talks about the importance of providing the community with mosquito repellent. “It’s something that can help alleviate some tensions about what’s going on right now,” she told KXAN. “It’s something we want to be here to help them with, and something they might not have been able to afford.”

So, protect yourselves ladies! Both Martin’s Wellness locations (Lamar Plaza and Dripping Springs) are here to help.
